In the realm of modern lighting solutions, crafting a rechargeable LED table lamp is both a rewarding and practical endeavor. This article will guide you through the creative and technical aspects of designing a stylish and functional lamp that not only illuminates your space but also adds a touch of sophistication to your home.

Introduction to Led Table Lamp

In this compact do-it-yourself (DIY) undertaking, we will create a battery-operated and rechargeable LED table lamp with adjustable light-dimming capabilities.

The lighting options available in the market generally fall into two categories. The conventional type typically employs a 3 to 5-watt LED bulb, functioning on a 230 V AC power supply. However, this type lacks the flexibility of light dimming and can only be toggled between ON and OFF. On the other hand, there exists a battery-operated, rechargeable LED table lamp, known for its slightly lower illuminance compared to a standard 230 V AC LED lamp. Our goal is to design a lamp that combines the best of both worlds, incorporating features from both types.

The Connection of Circuit

As illustrated in the diagram above, the three Li-ion battery cells are interconnected in a back-to-back configuration within the three-cell holder.

– The positive terminal (+Ve) of the cell holder is linked to the B+ terminal of the BMS module.
– The negative terminal (-Ve) of the cell holder is connected to the B- terminal of the BMS module.
– The single cell is linked to the B1 terminal, while the two-cell configuration connects to the B2 terminal.
– Output from the battery pack is accessed through the P+ and P- terminals.
– These same terminals serve as points for supplying the charging input to the battery pack, facilitated by an external adapter.

LED Driver Circuit with PWM Dimmer
This circuit is assembled utilizing components such as IC NE555, Darlington transistor TIP122, a 5 K pot, and several other necessary elements.

Operation of the circuit

The IC NE555 is set up in a stable mode to generate continuous pulses at approximately 1 KHz. The 5 K pot is connected between the discharge pin (7) and the threshold pin (6) using two diodes, D1 and D2, as indicated in the circuit diagram.

As the pot value increases, the charging time of capacitor C1 also increases, while the discharging time decreases. Consequently, this lengthens the pulse width of the output while maintaining the same frequency. Conversely, a decrease in the pot value shortens the charging time of capacitor C1, increases the discharging time, and reduces the pulse width of the output.

The PWM output is directed to the base input of the Darlington transistor Q1. With an increase in pulse width, more current flows through the LEDs connected in the collector, intensifying the brightness of the light. Conversely, a decrease in pulse width results in less current passing through the LEDs, diminishing the light intensity.

Enclosure and Assembly
Displayed in the illustration beneath, the PWM dimmer circuit is enclosed within a plastic container, and the LEDs are linked to the circuit through individual-core 1 mm² flexible wires. The battery pack, complete with the BMS, is securely positioned at the base of the plastic enclosure. An ON/OFF switch is affixed to one of the sides of the housing box.
